Overview
Produced by MAPPA Studios, this film serves as a direct sequel to the Chainsaw Man Season 1 anime and adapts Volumes 5 and 6 of the original manga. Combining intense action, psychological depth and dark humor, it delivers a cinematic experience for fans and newcomers alike.
Plot Summary
After the defeat of the Samurai Sword, Makima, the mysterious leader of the Public Safety Devil Hunters, assigns the Shark Fiend Beam as a temporary partner to Denji (Chainsaw Man), while Power recovers from blood loss. During a heartfelt movie marathon, Denji and Makima share an emotional connection, hinting that Denji still has a heart capable of feeling despite his brutal past.
One stormy night, Denji meets Reze, a charming girl working at a café, and soon becomes infatuated with her. Torn between his affection for Makima and his growing feelings for Reze, Denji finds himself caught between love and manipulation. Meanwhile, Aki Hayakawa is partnered with the Angel Devil, whose deadly touch shortens human lifespans, creating tension and moral conflict within the team.
As Denji and Reze grow closer, she invites him to a secret midnight swim at her old school. But beneath her kind smile hides a deadly truth—Reze is actually the Bomb Devil, a Soviet assassin sent to capture Denji. After brutally killing her pursuers with the help of the Typhoon Devil, she reveals her mission and betrays Denji with a deceptive kiss.
A violent battle erupts across the city. Denji, aided by Beam, Aki, and the Angel Devil, fights desperately against Reze and the Typhoon Devil. In an explosive showdown, Denji uses his chainsaw powers and Beam’s shark form to defeat his enemies underwater. Despite his victory, he shows compassion toward Reze, asking her to run away with him instead of killing her.
The next day, Reze decides to meet Denji at the café, but fate intervenes. Makima and Angel Devil ambush her in an alley, leaving her fatally wounded. As she dies, Reze reflects on her choices and her hidden affection for Denji.
In a heartbreaking post-credits scene, Denji waits with a bouquet of flowers, unaware of Reze’s death. Power approaches and jokes about the flowers being for her. In a bittersweet moment, Denji smiles, then eats the bouquet—symbolizing the pain of lost love and the cruelty of destiny.
