"How to Train Your Dragon (2025): The Live-Action Remake of the Classic Fantasy Adventure"
How to Train Your Dragon is a 2025 American fantasy adventure film that serves as a live-action remake of the 2010 animated feature, which was loosely based on Cressida Cowell’s 2003 novel. Produced by DreamWorks Animation, the film was co-executive produced, written, and directed by Dean DeBlois, who previously led the original animated trilogy. The cast includes Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Gabriel Howell, Julian Dennison, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Peter Serafinowicz, and Nick Frost. Gerard Butler reprises his role as Stoick the Vast from the animated series.
The project was announced in February 2023, with plans for a live-action adaptation. Dean DeBlois returned to write, direct, and produce the new film. John Powell, who composed the score for the original trilogy, also returned for this version. By May 2023, Thames and Parker had joined the cast, with further casting revealed in January 2024. Filming took place in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and concluded in May.
How to Train Your Dragon marked DreamWorks' first foray into live-action cinema. It premiered at CinemaCon on April 2, 2025, and was released in the United States by Universal Pictures on June 13, 2025. The film was met with generally positive reviews and grossed $206 million worldwide, ranking as the tenth-highest-grossing film of 2025. A sequel is scheduled for release on June 11, 2027.
